Today, 24th May, East Devon District Council met in full for the first time following this year’s local elections, in order to elect key positions in the Council and confirm appointments to committees and outside bodies.

I’m delighted to have supported fellow Liberal Democrat, Cllr Paul Arnott, to continue as Leader of EDDC, following his stellar work leading the Democratic Alliance between 2020 and 2023, as well as Cllr Eleanor Rylance, Liberal Democrat councillor for Broadclyst ward, for Chair of Council. I know Paul and Eleanor well, and have every confidence that they will work hard in the best interests of residents over the next four years.

I’m privileged, too, to share that I have been appointed to several posts on Council committees. This year, I will sit on:

• Overview Committee – which is responsible for reviewing new issues and challenges for the Council to address, and for making recommendations to Cabinet and Council for adoption of new policy
• Audit and Governance Committee – which has oversight of Council governance arrangements, including measures for preventing fraud, maintaining sound financial management and non-financial performance, and for risk management
• Strategic Planning Committee – which is charged with oversight and development of local development strategies and planning policies, including the emerging new East Devon Local Plan
